Using a blog as a teaching tool
I am considering using a blog as a teaching tool for a module in Environmental Ethics, as a kind of reflective research journal. Students should comlpete a diary as they research a topic in preparation for their final essay on a subject of their own choice. I'm thinking that they could open up their own site to others in the class, and encourage others to post their thought and comments about the sucject of the blog. But it might also be nice to open it u0p to a wider audience to get contributions form elsewhere. I think it would be good to assess the blog, so that students do put the work it, but also because it diversifies the modes of assessment used within the course and hence the skills acquired within the degree program.
But I'm completely new to this, so I'm going to post this blog as a practice for myself and open it up for any contributions. I'd really liek to hear from anyone who has used this technique for similar purpose, who has any good tips on how to encourage students to use blogs effectively and also how I should try to assees them fairly.
